Today Year 4 children are at the Leadership Centre in Spennymoor for our annual Diversity conference with Brandon Primary School. We were very lucky to have Deputy Mitchell introduce our conference via webcam, and then we have been taking part in a variety of activities to promote diversity and the fact that everyone is unique. Children have enjoyed meeting up with friends from Brandon and working together to find out about each other.
Lunchtime gave us the opportunity to spend more time with our new friends, as well as have fun outside, then it was back to the activities! During the day we planted sunflowers, used puppets to create movie clips for welcoming new children in school, researched different countries taking part in the World Cup and made some Finger Fortune-Tellers!
So Year 4, a few questions for you...
What have you found out about diversity today?
What have you enjoyed doing at the conference?
Have you made any new friends today or learnt more about people you already know?
We worked together during the afternoon to put a welcome video together for children who are new to our school. It can be difficult starting a new school, not knowing anyone, not knowing how things are organised. We hope that this video will go some way to helping new children start at our school.
I am the headteacher at Tanfield Lea Community Primary School, a primary school in County Durham, who wants to broaden our horizons and to show the world what we have to offer.
